Computer availability | Northwestern’s largest computer lab is located in Van Peursem Hall, the college’s main academic building. It houses 20 PCs, a scanner, and black-and-white and color printers. There’s also a Macintosh lab for use by computer science students. In addition, each residence hall has a computer lab with PCs and a networked printer, and Ramaker Library has laptop computers available for checkout and use in the library.

|
| Costs | Northwestern doesn’t charge network fees. Our students have free use of e-mail, the Internet and network space. If your computer doesn’t have a built-in Ethernet port, you’ll have to buy a network card. Just bring your PC into Computing Services and we can help you install the card.

|
| Mac or PC | You have your choice of what kind of computer to bring to campus; Internet and e-mail support is available for Mac users, but printing on campus printers is not available on a Mac. Northwestern’s computer labs consist mostly of PCs, although six Macs are available in the main lab for computer science students, and 21 Mac G5s are housed in the Korver Visual Arts Center for graphic art students.

| Network | All buildings on campus—including all residence halls—are connected to the campus network through fiber-optic cable. Many of the main buildings on campus also offer wireless network access.

Online access to info | The collections of Northwestern’s Ramaker Library are available through a computerized search and circulation system. Students and faculty can also use the online advising/registration system for on-time advising, checking progress toward a degree, registering for classes and viewing grades.

| Port per pillow | All residence hall rooms have a network connection for each student.
