A 2002 graduate of Northwestern College, Anila Karunakar helps recruit international students, assisting them with paperwork and the adjustment to college in the U.S. after they enroll. She helps advise the college’s International Club, which includes both international and American students, and she works closely with Northwestern’s student Multicultural Connections Interns as they work to promote hospitality and intercultural understanding in the campus community.

Karunakar is from India but was raised in Bahrain. As a student at Northwestern, Karunakar was a member of both the International Club and the Multicultural Awareness Club. She also has attended the National Christian Multicultural Student Leadership Conference both as a student and now as a student development professional. She brings her intercultural perspective to the training for Northwestern’s resident assistants and students participating in Summer of Service short-term missions. She is also a guest lecturer in many Northwestern classes.

Karunakar is a member of the Association of Christians in Student Development. She has a degree in elementary education and is pursuing an M.A. in Diversity in Higher Education at Geneva College.
