Clash of the Classes
Northwestern’s year starts with a little friendly competition during the annual Clash of the Classes. Seniors (gold), juniors (blue), sophomores (black) and freshmen (red) battle one another in tug-of-war, human foosball, Around the World trivia challenge, Knock-out, dance-off and more.

Northwestern Western
It starts with a weeklong Wild West shootout and concludes with Friday night line dancing, mechanical bull riding and root beer down at the saloon.

RUSH
Named for the adrenaline surge that accompanies dancing, RUSH started in 2003-04 as one show with nine student performers in six dances. Produced entirely by students, RUSH has since grown to a five-show production of 15 dances performed by more than 200 students. After auditioning, students get to groove in one or more student-choreographed numbers ranging from hip-hop and salsa to ballroom and ballet.

Homecoming
Every October, students and visiting alumni enjoy Homecoming. The week includes the Medallion Hunt, coronation of a king and queen and the air band competition. Saturday starts with the Morning on the Green carnival, then football in the afternoon—and at night, the Homecoming dance. Festivities conclude Sunday with Homecoming worship in the chapel, attended by students, alumni and community members.

Ballroom Dance
Every February around Valentine’s Day, big band music by our own Jazz Band fills the Rowenhorst Student Center Mini-Gym for the annual ballroom dance. During the weeks leading up to the dance, students can take free lessons from a professional dance instructor.

Battle of the Mighty Floyd
Wooden pallets tied to inner tubes, garbage bags filled with Styrofoam peanuts, hundreds of milk jugs lashed together—these are the seagoing vessels of April’s Battle of the Mighty Floyd [River]. Seaworthy? Not really. See-worthy? You bet!

Ballyhoo
Once they dry off after the Battle of the Mighty Floyd, students head for Ballyhoo, a pre-final-exams talent show in April. They sing, dance, juggle in the dark, cook steaks, perform magic—all in pursuit of a college student’s dream prize: cash!
