Fern Smith Hall

Built in 1968, Fern Smith Hall houses 200 women. It is named for Fern Smith, a former Northwestern College music instructor.

You’ll want to bring your own … mini fridge and fan
Showers per student: About 1 shower for every 7 women
Community spaces: 3 lounges: community, study and computer
Laundry/cooking facilities: Community laundry room on each floor; 1 stove, microwaves available in RA rooms
Distance to the caf’: 10 to 100 steps, depending on what floor you live. You may go in your jammies if you want because the caf’ is our next-door neighbor.
Smith traditions: All-hall pajama bowling, all-hall Christmas party and all-hall skate night
Famous (or infamous) Smith pranks: After returning from a dinner out, four women found that everything from their two rooms, including mattresses and couches, had been piled in a third room. It took the women a long time to put their rooms back together!
