Juried Student Art Exhibition runs April 16-May 4

Artwork by Northwestern College students will be on display in the college’s Te Paske Gallery April 16 through May 4 in the final show of the academic year. A public reception is scheduled for Friday, April 16, at 7 p.m.

Northwestern’s 42nd Juried Student Art Exhibition gives the college’s art students the opportunity to competitively test their work with each other and to have the results of that competition exhibited. The show will feature paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, ceramics and photographs, as well as mixed media and graphic design projects.

While student artists do not have to be art majors, all entries must be work created as part of a Northwestern College art course.

Serving as the juror for the show is Randy Becker, a graphic design professor at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa. Becker holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in printmaking and art history from Southern Illinois University. He has taught at Westmar University, Iowa State University, Western Iowa Tech Community College, Morningside College and Northwestern. He has also served as the chief studio painter and print shop manager for the Oxbow School of Art in Saugatuck, Mich., and as the gallery director for the Le Mars Arts Council.

After judging the entries, Becker will give a gallery talk during the reception on April 16.

The Te Paske Gallery is located in the Thea G. Korver Visual Arts Center, on Highway 10 at 214 8th St. S.W. in Orange City. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to midnight Sunday.
