As Northwestern’s director of service learning, Marlon Haverdink partners with faculty and staff to offer students service opportunities that support their classroom learning. He co-directs the Portage Program, a pre-orientation experience in Minnesota’s Boundary Waters that offers a select group of incoming students an outdoor adventure and experiential learning. He also oversees students involved in the college’s Hunger/Homeless and Prison ministries as well as students who belong to Northwestern’s International Justice Mission chapter.
A 1997 graduate of Northwestern College, Haverdink earned a master’s degree in higher education from Geneva College in Pennsylvania. While there he designed and implemented an off-campus study program. At Northwestern, Haverdink has been an admissions counselor, a resident director and the director of leadership development.
