Students aid community through O-Serve

Aug 22, 2008

Students at Northwestern College will benefit from the Orange City community throughout the 2008-09 school year--they will be cheered on at athletic contests, invited into area homes for meals, prayed for at churches, served at businesses. To start the year off, though, new students will turn the tables and assist the community through O-Serve on Monday afternoon, Aug. 25.

For the second year in a row, Northwestern is offering O-Serve as a component of new student orientation. On Monday, freshmen and transfer students will participate in a variety of community service projects--picking up trash on the  Puddle Jumper Trail; cleaning at The Bridge, a transitional housing facility; playing games with Hope Haven residents; and sorting goods at a Justice For All warehouse in Rock Valley.

Another group will participate in a prayer walk/walking food drive, praying for houses and buildings along their route while also asking residents for donations to the local food pantry and The Bridge in Orange City.
