Health services
Northwestern students have free access to health care services by a certified family nurse practitioner. Services provided include assessment, diagnosis and treatment of acute illnesses and minor injuries. Referrals are made to other health care providers if necessary. Medical information is also available.
The health services clinic is located in the Wellness Center in the newly renovated Rowenhorst Student Center. Appointments may be made by contacting office manager Kim Wright at ext. 7321 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
All incoming freshmen and transfer students must file a physical form (PDF), signed by your physician, with Northwestern's health services before the start of fall classes. The form must include the dates of the student's last tetanus shot and two MMRs, and the results of a current TB test. The hepatitis B vaccine series and the conjugate meningitis vaccine are STRONGLY recommended. Recent literature also recommends a Tdap booster between ages 11 and 19 years. Students need a physician's clearance to participate in athletics, physical education classes or intramural sports.
The Orange City Area Health System, which includes a clinic and hospital, is located just east of campus on Highway 10.
