The church and
Northwestern College
As a Christian college, Northwestern has a special role in the body of Christ. It’s here that future pastors prepare for seminary and current students discover their part in the work God is doing in the world. When graduates leave this place, it’s with the realization God’s call involves not only their choice of a career, but also their role as a spouse, parent, community volunteer, board member, Sunday school teacher and more. We are preparing servant leaders for tomorrow’s church.
While affiliated with the Reformed Church in America (RCA), Northwestern is home to believers of numerous denominations. We have an open admission policy that doesn’t require students to sign a statement of faith in order to enroll. We do, however, require every employee—whether faculty, administration or staff—to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
Northwestern’s church relations office serves congregations, encourages student involvement in ministry, and provides resources and programming for pastors and congregations. Specifically, the college …
- Sponsors an annual Pastors Conference;
- Helps students catch a vision for missions and lives of service through the Spring Service Project and Summer of Service programs;
- Offers a religion department with majors (religion, Christian education and youth ministry) that are among the most popular at Northwestern;
- Prepares students to serve as worship and music leaders through Northwestern’s music ministry major;
- Makes available worship teams of students to lead services for area churches;
- Connects student interns looking for ministry experience with pastors willing to provide an opportunity to learn; and
- Schedules inspirational performances by Northwestern music and drama groups in churches throughout the country.
