Pre-occupational therapy

Occupational therapists use everyday activities as a way to help people with physical and/or mental disabilities achieve independence. Students interested in an occupational therapy career have three options: an occupational therapy B.A. degree, a B.A. degree plus an occupational therapy certificate, or a B.A. degree plus an M.A. degree in occupational therapy.

Students who want an occupational therapy B.A. degree complete two years at NWC and two years in a professional occupational therapy program at another college. Most students, however, choose one of the other two options, earning their B.A. degree from Northwestern before entering an occupational therapy program. The occupational therapy certificate and master’s programs are for students who want a liberal arts B.A. as a foundation for their occupational therapy career. Both the certificate and M.A. programs take approximately two years to complete.
