Exhibits to feature work by senior art majors

Eight senior art majors at Northwestern College will display their work February through April in the college’s Te Paske Gallery. The exhibitions are in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a bachelor’s degree in art.

The first show, Feb. 16–22, will feature artwork by Christine Geertsema of Tinley Park, Ill. Entitled “Red, Raw and Wriggling,” it will include oil paintings, pen-and-ink drawings, photography, ceramics and sculpture. Geertsema is considering graduate school and is interested in becoming a college professor and using her art to support global justice.

Alison Stutzman of Austin, Minn., will exhibit her artwork Feb. 24 through March 2. Featuring a range of media and entitled “Simple Complexity,” her exhibition will include an opening reception on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. Stutzman plans to pursue graduate studies in art at Montana State University next fall.

March 14–20 are the dates for Mike Goll’s exhibition, with a reception scheduled for Thursday, March 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. Goll, from Garner, Iowa, will display his graphic art, a variety of sculpture, photography and paintings. After graduating from Northwestern, he plans to pursue a career as a graphic designer.

Kristine Norris of Council Bluffs, Iowa, has scheduled her show for March 21–27 and a reception for Friday, March 23. Artwork will include acrylic paintings, sculpture, prints, photography and pottery. She plans to get a job in the art field and perhaps to study abroad.

Sculpture, paintings and prints by Ruth George will be on display March 28 through April 4. George is from San Jose, Calif.

Jodi Folkerts of Allison, Iowa, has scheduled her exhibition for April 10–14, with a reception at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 14. The show will include ceramics, acrylic paintings, intaglio prints and graphic design work. Folkerts is interested in a career in graphic design.

April 16–21 are the dates of Joel Scholten’s exhibition. Originally from Oostburg, Wis., he plans to become an art teacher. His show will feature color photography, clay and plaster sculptures, and acrylic paintings.

Abigail Nedrud of Montevideo, Minn., will display her artwork April 23–28. Her exhibition will include acrylic and oil paintings, chalk pastel drawings, sculpture, photography, and ceramic pots, vases and bowls. After student teaching in Sioux Falls, S.D., Nedrud plans to either pursue a job in education or attend graduate school.

The Te Paske Gallery is located in the Thea G. Korver Visual Arts Center, on Highway 10 at 214 8th St. S.W. in Orange City. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to midnight Sunday.
