Instructions for transfer applicants
Transfer students are admitted to Northwestern based on their college work to date. In order to be accepted, you must have at least a 2.25 cumulative grade point average at the institution from which you are transferring, although some students without a 2.25 GPA are accepted on a provisional basis (see catalog for details). Personal interviews and campus visits are encouraged—though not required—in determining admission. Once all forms have been submitted, you can expect to hear back from Northwestern regarding the status of your application within two weeks.
Steps in applying for admission:
- Complete the Application for Admission. There is no fee if you apply online. If you submit the paper form, the application fee is $25. For a paper version of the application, you may either download and print out the form or ask that an application packet be sent to you by e-mailing admissions@nwciowa.edu or calling 1-800-747-4757. Once completed, the application should be mailed to:
Office of Admissions
Northwestern College
101 7th Street SW
Orange City, IA 51041
- Ask your college adviser or pastor to fill out the personal/academic evaluation and return it to our admissions office. [download personal/academic evaluation form (Requires Adobe® Reader®)]
- Submit to Northwestern College official transcripts from high school and all colleges you have attended. Student-issued transcripts are not considered official. Once all transcripts are received, our registrar will complete a transcript credit evaluation for you.
- Provide us with your American College Test (ACT) or Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) test scores. If you’ve already taken the test, your score will be printed on your high school transcript.
Important financial aid information for transfer applicants
In order to be considered for need-based scholarships and financial aid, you must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This application may be filed any time after January 1; our priority deadline for certain kinds of funding is April 1.
Northwestern also provides financial aid that is merit-based. You may be eligible for scholarships and grants based on your academic ability or talent in music, theatre, art or athletics. While the FAFSA isn’t required for these awards, you will need to contact the appropriate department.
