Instrumentalists to perform student recital

Apr 3, 2008

Northwestern College senior Jenna Teerink of Worthington, Minn., and junior Kayla Driesen of Rock Valley, Iowa, will present a joint instrumental recital on Tuesday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The public is invited to attend; no admission will be charged.

Teerink, a music major, will perform three pieces for flute. She will begin with Sonata for Flute and Piano by Francis Poulenc. She will also perform Lookout by Robert Dick and Concerto in E minor by Saverio Mercadante. Lori Vande Brake, staff accompanist, will accompany her on the piano.

Teerink plays flute in Northwestern’s Symphonic Band and is a member of the Percussion Ensemble. After graduating, she plans to seek a position as a band director in the Midwest.

Driesen, an elementary education major, will perform two pieces for piano. She will start with Opus 118 by Johannes Brahms and continue with Sergei Rachmaninoff’s 6 Moments Musicaux.

The 2006 recipient of Northwestern’s McGilvra Keyboard Competitive Scholarship, Driesen plans to teach elementary school in the future. She comments about the recital, “There will be a good mix of contemporary and classical music. The different styles will offer the audience a wide variety to enjoy.”
